Mom and I have been curious about this place every time we go to Grocery Outlet. We usually eat before we shop and normally choose a place that's closer to her apt. near Eagle Rd. Well this time I remembered that we're going to G.O. today, let's be sure to stop at Skippers first!
I decided to check out Yelp reviews yesterday and was surprised at the mix over the years. Kind of all over the map. I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little nervous, frankly. To our delight, our experience was very positive. We were warmly greeted and the menu was explained very well (e.g. how many pieces you get, the different breading options, etc).
I opted for the classic breaded (love that they use panko bread crumbs!) and ordered the shrimp and fish. My mother decided on the grilled salmon and chose chips and grilled veggies as her two sides. We also both ordered white wines. (I snagged their last Chardonnay, Mom had the Moscato, both reasonably priced at $4).
Our server (owner? I should've asked) said the TV room up front was the coolest in the place, if we wanted to grab a table there (it was at least 99F outside today) which we did, and they had the NASCAR race on, which suited me just fine. But no objections re the main part of the restaurant which was comfortable, too.
We both loved our meals. The shrimp and fish were not greasy at all, and cooked to perfection. Mom loved the salmon, and had a LOT leftover to bring home. My only regret was that I totally forgot about the sauces that others have mentioned. Our server knew this was our first time here but didn't mention them either. Also, I had totally forgotten that I wanted to try a small order of their hush puppies to compare them to Arthur Treacher's that I loved back in NoVA/DC area.
Now we have another reason to go back, plus I want to try the clam chowder that everyone raves about! Just not in triple-digit heat. We'll be back in the fall for sure.
P.S. We didn't check out the bathrooms, but were pleased with the overall decor. You could tell it had been updated with fresh paint in recent years. -

I'm an old Skippers fan from way back. 40 years ago -40??? ~ Yep!) My husband & I used to go to Skippers each week for the all-you-can-eat fish & chips with chowder & slaw - cost was about 5 bucks.
We loved it then & we love it now. The fish has improved over the years. You can now order more varieties of cod - Original, English Pub or Beer Batter. I still prefer the original style.
Oh, and fortunately, they've taken the MSG out of the chowder!
My only complaint is Skippers is pretty pricey. But hey, it's a wonderful treat now & then! -

Very disappointed in the quality of the food, and service, fish was dripping with oil after one bite, went back to the store to be told that's how pub fried fish is, it's soaked with oil, and that if I didn't like it oh well, no refunds, said he could cook me a cheaper cut of fish, but no refunds.
He said that's why usually people use vinegar to counteract all the oil on his fish & Chips. (The owner said that)
So if you're looking for super greasy expensive fish, served by rude owners, Skippers is the place for you. -

Skipper's used to be a Northwest institution. Founded in Bellevue, Wash., with locations throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
Fast forward 40 years and they're hardly the same. The Fairview location hasn't had a makeover since the mid-1970s when I started going there as a teenager.
The fish used to be hand-breaded and had a fish and chips texture. Today, the fish is limp and appears frozen with the breading taking place as a factory and not at the store.
The fries used to be special but now they're no different than any brand found in the frozen case at a grocery store.
The clam chowder, on the other hand, is still pretty good. It doesn't seem any different from what was offered years ago. -

I star I gave them is because I had to give them one and the young man who waited on me was very very nice he was the only good thing about this place When I got home I couldn't believe what a Crappy meal it was the fish was one step above Gordons in the freezer at Walmart the coleslaw was nothing more than cut cabbage I could not taste any dressing at all the best thing about the whole stinking meal was the French fries they put it paper bags which is a joke even Mc D's has decent to go containers When you are paying just short of 30.00 for a meal for two you expect to get something decent and this was not Three small and I do mean small pieces of fish a 1/4 cup of crappy dry coleslaw and a few French fries is a freaking rip off The fish truck in Boise has good fish and you cant tell me that Skippers cant have decent fish Than as I am leaving I notice a sign that states they no long give senior or military discounts really? What a slap in the face to our men and women serving our country I called the Manager this morning to complain and to get a phone number for Corporate office for Skippers which you can not find on line I am guessing they get so many complaints they have taken it down at any rate he told me he doesn't have the number for them at this location are you freaking kidding me? Don't freaking lie to me I am not as dumb as you look and I resent someone thinking I am I got a line of bull a mile long to explain all the reasons for the crappy meal I will NEVER go back to Skippers and I will definitely tell anyone who listen about the meal and the manger as for the young man who was working the counter I hope you can find a job at a decent place your very nice and I feel sorry for you working there
